Key partners in this alliance include Chandrababu Naidu, a veteran politician from Andhra Pradesh, and Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, who has a reputation for changing political allegiances to suit his interests.
Another important ally is the Shiv Sena, a party with a Hindu-first agenda, which won seven seats in this year’s election. With these allies, Modi has a narrow majority to govern effectively as he navigates the complex world of Indian politics.
