Norway to Assemble Leopard 2 Tanks, Eyes Expansion into International Market
Norway is set to assemble 37 out of the 54 German-made Leopard 2 tanks ordered, with plans to become a Scandinavian center for Leopard maintenance and modernization. The Norwegian subcontractor Ritek, in collaboration with Germany’s Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, will take on this ambitious project.
This agreement not only strengthens NATO and European countries’ tank production capacity but also signifies a potential for future international collaborations in the defense industry. The establishment of a new production line in Levanger, western Norway, opens up possibilities for assembling tanks for other countries.
In a strategic move, Norway has also delivered eight Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine, showcasing a commitment to supporting allies. The Norwegian government has allocated significant funds for the maintenance of these tanks in Poland, further solidifying their partnership with Ukraine.
With the future in sight, Ritek’s role as a key player in Leopard tank maintenance and modernization positions Norway at the forefront of defense advancements in Scandinavia and beyond.
